TC graduated from Middlesex Polytechnic in 1985 with a First Class Hons (dance major) in Performing Arts.
Throughout her career TC has combined her work as a professional dancer/performer with educational and community focused work, both within the companies she has worked for and as a freelance artist.
Increasingly over the years TC has joined forces with, collaborated and responded to artists from various disciplines; making, researching and combining skills. She works extensively with community groups and those who work with community groups taking workshops and creating performance pieces. She is a performer, creative facilitator, choreographer, mentor and teacher. Now as a dancer in her 56th year she continues to explore how a body can move freely, with clarity and with authenticity. Her work has spanned the gamut of dance and dance theatre through Shakespeare, dance improvisation, script, the spoken word, children’s theatre, film, puppetry, installation and outdoor site specific productions.
Over the last few years TC has led a series of CPD workshops for artists at Yorkshire Dance and has been a regular contributor at their Encounters Festivals, leading creative sessions and projects for a variety of inclusive community groups. One of which was ‘A Dance In A Day’ for International Women’s Day and a creation of an intergenerational performance piece called To The Beat Of A Different Drum with a group of Yorkshire Dance Elders and the RJC Shack Out Juniors.
TC more recently directed A Tree and A Tub and A Moment In Time which was originally performed at Yorkshire Dance’s Ageless Festival and went on to do a short tour of care homes in Leeds. It later re emerged as an outdoor production for care homes at the end of a covid lockdown and it’s hoped that this piece will continue to evolve and adapt for care home residents and their families.
TC is currently in the process of developing her role as mentor, facilitator and foreign representative for Yorkshire Dance’s Company Of People performing gender project encouraging exchange, dialogue and shared practice between a diverse range of artists and community groups.
Other companies TC has worked with are – Red Ladder, Horse and Bamboo, Turnaround Dance Company, Physical Postcards, Opera Circus, Wayne Sables Project, Handicapace, Manchester Royal Exchange, The Dukes Playhouse, Bolton Octagon C-Beebies.
